Students at Rocky Christian School won’t be back in their normal space anytime soon.
As renovation work is ongoing, Rocky Christian School Society board chair Aaron Terpsma says students will likely be learning at an alternative space at École Rocky Elementary until at least after Christmas.
“We are extremely grateful to Principal Bowman and the rest of the staff at ERE,” he says. “They have made the transition for our students, staff and parents go as smooth as possible.
The new learning space at École Rocky Elementary was a last minute solution after summer renovations at Rocky Christian ran behind schedule, and asbestos was discovered during reno disturbances.

Asbestos and delayed schedule notwithstanding, Terpsma says the renovations are inching closer to completion.
Good progress has been made on a new addition to the school, he says, although interior work has yet to be completed.
Renovations also include improved students accessibility, a new classroom, new office space, improved washrooms and changerooms in the gymnasium, a revamped lobby, and more.

Terpsma says construction over the summer was a challenge.
“We had some challenges in July,” he says. “It was difficult to get the concrete work finished with the frequent rain — but it’s moving along.”

Wild Rose School Division (WRSD) has been extremely accommodating, says Terpsma.
Indeed, at WRSD’s Sept. 16 board meeting, the division approved a motion for Rocky Christian students to have a space made available at École Rocky Elementary for the entire school year.
“We’re very grateful to WRSD for all their generosity in helping us out,” says Terpsma.
