West Country residents stepped up in a big way over the Christmas season, donating more than $360,000 to the Rocky Health Foundation’s Your Rest Assured campaign.
The total includes tens of thousands of dollars from anonymous donors collected throughout December, along with $1,665 raised through Evergreen Co-op’s Cake Sensation fundraiser and $1,411 from a donation jar at the store.
The donations bring the Your Rest Assured campaign past the 60 per cent mark toward its $585,000 goal.
Launched in November, the initiative aims to fund the purchase of 31 acute care beds, two labour and delivery beds, and nine stretchers for the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre.

As promised, the foundation will begin ordering hospital equipment right away — even before the entire fundraising total has been met.
Orders for the majority of hospital beds will be sent out early January, says foundation chair Shirley Hope, with remaining orders placed as funds become available.
“We just want to thank the community for donations large and small — they all help improve comfort for patients” says Hope, who adds 100 per cent of all donations go directly to the purchase of beds and stretchers.
Alongside the fundraising campaign, the foundation also recently purchased two new cordless, high-intensity surgical headlamps for the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre.
One headlamp will be used in the operating room, while the other will serve the emergency department. Officials say the lamps enhance precision, safety and efficiency, helping support better patient outcomes close to home.
