The town of Rocky Mountain House is hoping to receive $150,000 from the Alberta government to assist with its bid to build a new multiplex.

At council’s direction, the town will put its hat in the ring for the Alberta Community Partnership Intermunicipal Collaboration Grant, which provides provincial funding to help local governments address regional priorities.

Applicants must provide at least 10 per cent of the total project cost. CAO Dean Krause says the town already has the required funds in reserves, allowing the application to move forward.

To support the multiplex project, the town has allocated $300,000 in its 2026 budget to begin developing a concept plan.

Of that amount, Clearwater County has contributed $50,000.

Wes Amendt, the town’s director of recreation and community services, says the town hasn’t spent any money on the project yet, but expects to begin reviewing contractor submissions after the Sept. 18 deadline.

In July, the town signed a memorandum of understanding with the owner of 54 acres south of 47th Avenue near Old Town as a potential site for the multiplex.

The deadline to submit the grant application is Oct. 1, 2026.
