The Rocky Rams’ front end staff are in high spirits, hoping to build on the momentum from the 23/24 season for the upcoming campaign.
The 23/24 season saw the team finish the regular season above .500 following a more difficult season the year prior.
Fans will get a first glimpse of the team during home-and-home exhibition games against Ponoka- away on Sept. 6 and home at the Rocky Arena on Sept. 7.
“Losing some of the 21-year-olds’ leadership we had is always something you look to replace,” says head coach and assistant GM, Wendall Mason. “We’re very happy with the 18-year-old guys that we have coming into the lineup now. We’re feeling pretty confident.”
Mason says the club had one of the best training camps in its history, with over 35 players vying for a spot on the roster
During the pre-season, the team will be trying out some new systems its been working on over the summer, says Mason, with a focus on timing and puck movement.
Two new goalies will split net minding duties over the two pre-season games, says Mason, with some new additions, including a recruit from U18 AA, as well as a revamped defense core led by newcomer Cole Fox.
Ahead of the regular season, Mason says the club is still looking for local volunteers to fill a number of game night positions including timekeepers, scorekeeping, penalty box attendants, security, and in-game hosts.
