Organizers say the upcoming 56th annual Rocky Oilmens Golf Tournament has seen an overwhelming level of support from the community as the tournament completely sold out within weeks.
President of the Rocky Oilmen’s Association, Len Doroschuck Jr. says the energy behind the event is palpable, with an enthusiastic response from over 215 golfers signed up to the event, as well as an uptick in response from volunteers and sponsors.
Rocky Oilmens Association officials say the tournament will help raise funds for its four local high school scholarships benefitting students entering trades, construction and industrial careers.
Doroschuck Jr. says unprecedented community support is indicative of larger trends.
“A lot of times our event parallel with the ebbs and flows of the industry. When times are challenging in the industry, it’s challenging running the events,” says Doroschuck Jr. “I think with the event being so popular this year is an indicator of where industry is at, there’s a lot of positive things going on.”
Organizers say the day will feature many food and drink tents along the course, as well as the popular long drive competition, where participants put business aside for some friendly competition.
Doroschuck Jr. says the Rocky Oilmens Association has donated hundreds of thousand of dollars back to the community since its inception in 1966 with events such as the Oilmens Curling Bonspiel held back in March at the Pidherney Curling Center.

Along with the scholarships, organizers say the tournament will also support various other spin-off causes such as junior golf.
The tournament will take place June 7 at Pine Hills Golf Course.
