The Rocky Organization for Animal Rescue (ROAR) will be holding its fall fundraising garage sale so it can continue to help lost and abandoned animals in the community.
Donations can be dropped off Sept. 23-25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion (4911 49 St.) in Rocky Mountain House, while the sale itself runs Sept. 25-28.
Lori Gray, office manager for the ROAR Society, says demand for animal rescue services continues to be at a critical level in Rocky Mountain House.
“It has not slowed down at all,” says Gray. “When it comes to rescuing animals, the amount of e-mails and phone calls that [we] receive is astronomical.”
Gray adds, the ROAR Society shelter continues to be at capacity, with some animals sheltered in make-shift kennels out of necessity due to the sheer number of surrenders.
She says shelters across the province from Red Deer, to Crossfield, to eastern Alberta are dealing with similar overflow capacity issues.
She adds, however, the organization’s spring garage sale was a success, bringing in around $4,000.
Proceeds from this week’s garage sale will go toward funding veterinarian bills, says Gray, as well as funding for the ROAR Society’s nearly-completed quarantine building.
‘The early bird gets the worm’ is true for a lot of things in life, however, Gray says that with this garage sale, there’s always new items and treasures being brought in.
“There’s always goodies every day,” says Gray. “From the time that we open until the time that we close, people always leave with great items in their hands.”
The sale will feature household items, gently used clothes, tools, fishing and camping gear, as well as electronics such as music and DVDs.
The organization asks that no large, heavy furniture or electronics or expired items be donated, says Gray.
The sale will be held over four days Sept. 25-28.

- Friday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
