Northern Crossing Music & Drama Society is set to present its holiday-themed show That’s Christmas To Me, December 11-12 at the Lou Soppit Community Centre.
Made up entirely of people from the Rocky Mountain House area, the choir will feature around 30 vocalists, while the band will also feature approximately 30 musicians, says show producer Alita Hermary.
The band includes brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, she says, offering a rich sound to complement the choral performances.
The concert will highlight an array of Christmas songs, from nostalgic classics to upbeat new arrangements. Notable performances include the choir’s rendition of “Christmas on Broadway,” a medley of popular holiday tunes, and the lively “Wacky Family Christmas.” Amber Misner, a flautist with the group, will also perform a special piece, “Those Bloomin’ Jingly Bells,” with pianist Kathy Snyder.
A group called Syphers Cove will also be doing a rendition of the popular Christmas song ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ as originally performed by Boney M, says Hermary.
She says rehearsals have been happening every week since the middle of September, and the group is excited to have the chance to finally perform it for the community.
Hermary credits musical director Bobbie-Jo Douglas as instrumental in guiding the choir and selecting songs for the performance. She, alongside band director Allison Lagree and assistant Amber Misner, have worked tirelessly to prepare the group for this memorable show.
Tickets for the concert are available for $20 at the Rocky Public Library, or rush seating at the door. As demand is rising, organizers encourage people to secure their tickets early.
Earlier in 2024, Northern Crossing presented its spring musical Grease. The theatre troupe recently held auditions for its spring 2025 production of Footloose.
