It’s a mixed bag in a new RCMP report outlining 2024 crime statistics for Rocky Mountain House and area compared to 2023.
Data shows decreases across various crime categories, while others saw increases.
Overall, criminal code offences showed a 0.2 per cent decrease year-over-year (three fewer than 2023). Property crimes, however, increased by 9.7 per cent, while person-related crimes dropped by 9.1 per cent.
Break-and-enters saw a 7.5 per cent rise, from 107 incidents in 2023 to 115 in 2024. Theft of motor vehicles, however, decreased by 12.3 per cent, dropping from 114 to 100. Meanwhile, thefts under $5000 increased by 6.4 per cent, rising from 156 in 2023 to 166.
Overall, in Rocky Mountain House, there were 46 fewer persons crimes y/y, but 86 more property crimes y/y.
In December 2024 alone, there were seven vehicle thefts, 10 break-and-enters, and three alcohol-related roadside suspensions. Domestic-related incidents were significant in December in Rocky Mountain House, with 21 spousal abuse cases reported, contributing to a year-to-date total of 243. Year-to-date for 2023 was 182— a 33 per cent increase y/y.

- Sexual Assaults: 33 per cent increase (eight in 2024)
- Assault: 13 per cent increase (77 in 2024)
- Break & Enter: 21 per cent increase (69 in 2024)
- Theft of Motor Vehicle: 19 per cent decrease (43 in 2024)
- Total Persons Crimes: 15 per cent increase
- Total Property Crime: 18 per cent increase
- Total Other Criminal Code: 5 per cent decrease.
- Total Criminal Code: 14 per cent increase
Caroline
- Spousal abuse: 35 per cent decrease y/y
- Assault: 5 per cent increase (22 in 2024)
- Break & Enter: 30 per cent decrease (seven in 2024)
- Theft of Motor Vehicle: 46 per cent decrease (seven in 2024)
- Total Persons Crimes: 14 per cent increase.
- Total Property Crime: 7 per cent decrease.
- Total Other Criminal Code: 7 per cenr decrease.
- Total Criminal Code: 0 per cent change.
Rocky Mountain House Provincial December 2024
- Seven thefts of motor vehicles: one car, two trucks, two SUVs, two vehicles taken without consent.
- Ten break & enters: three businesses, five residences, one other location, one unlawfully in dwelling house.
- Three provincial roadside suspensions: all alcohol-related.
