Very warm temperatures through the weekend, combined with a lack of precipitation, has elevated the wildfire danger in the West Country to very high.
Although a possible reprieve in weather may happen toward the end of the week, officials say there are still several days of hot and dry conditions expected and the wildfire danger will remain elevated.
Amid the elevated risk, wildland firefighters from the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, with assistance from aircraft, responded to a wildfire over the weekend (RWF-050.)
With a quick response, however, officials say the wildfire is now classified as being held and no communities are currently threatened by this wildfire.
With that, a fire ban remains in effect for the entire West Country region. That includes a prohibition on all wood campfires on public and private property, including backyard firepits. Outdoor wood and brush pile fires are also banned on both public and private lands.
Alberta Wildfire officials remind the public to follow the rules of the fire ban and help officials avoid sending critical resources to preventable wildfires.
If you see signs of fire, you can report it to 310-FIRE (3473). Officials say the sooner firefighters can respond, the sooner they can begin bringing it under control.
