Crews in Rocky Mountain House are clearing downed trees and other debris following the July 18 tornado.
Efforts are concentrated in the southeast end of town, where a contractor is removing trees and assessing damage.
As work continues, access to the area around 42 Ave. east of 42 St. will be restricted to contractors and local traffic. Town communications co-ordinator Laura Button says onlookers are discouraged from entering the area so they do not interfere with the important and potentially dangerous work underway.
While the town is aware of damage to a number of private businesses, Button says critical municipal infrastructure, including water and wastewater systems and recreation facilities, was not damaged.
Cleanup will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until the work is complete.

Free debris drop-off for residents
Town residents with downed trees on their property can use a free drop-off site on 43 St. north of 52A Ave., near the Giant Truck and Car Wash.
Although the Eco Centre accepts downed trees, it will also be processing municipal debris. Town officials are recommending residents take brush to the 43 St. site on the east end of town instead.
“Although we know it will take some time to recover, we’re very grateful there were no casualties or injuries from this event,” Button says.
