A roundabout north of Rocky is set to officially be on the Alberta government’s radar.
Rocky Mountain House Mayor Shane Boniface and Clearwater County Reeve Jordon Northcott joined Rocky Chamber officials Oct. 9 in formally signing a letter to MLA Jason Nixon requesting the construction of a roundabout in Rocky at Hwy. 11 and 22
The letter asserts that the introduction of a roundabout would decrease traffic delays and increase safety for both industry and residential traffic — especially as the highway gets busier.
In its request, the letter points to existing and future roundabouts along the Hwy 11. twinning project between Rocky and Red Deer.

The letter also cites research showing an 82 per cent reduction in fatal and injury collisions when two-way stops are converted to roundabouts on rural, single-lane roadways.
The research cited by council also shows roundabouts result in a 44 per cent reduction in collisions overall.
Residents have long raised concerns about safety at the intersection. A 2024 petition launched by a county resident raised concerns about the dangerous left turn onto Highway 11 for southbound traffic heading into town.
